time to freshen up
lounge to kitchen.jpg

When Jenni sent her request via our website ‘contact’ tab, her words typed bold and clear -

Jenni and her husband have been in their Marchooydore home for over 8 years and her vision was whiter and lighter colour scheme with more of a relaxed living vibe. Perfect for this couple who have retired and live more of a relaxed life style (I know Jenni will laugh at this comment, as she certainly has a full calendar, it’s only “work free”).

After the consultation, Jenni and I worked on a plan to start her project with a decent ‘list’ we created a moodboard to grab details she wanted to see in her home.
List of the project for the new look :-

Fresh paint internal
Update kitchen, bathrooms & laundry
New carpet
Update TV cabinets
Select new sheer curtains in Master Bedroom
Select new cushions, homewares, rugs, linen & art
Restyle bedrooms, living, TV space, sitting room & study

Help with Jenni’s personal DIY project of updating the wall way cabinet (check it out, it looks amazing)

Let the journey begin.

Choosing a new design and details for your home can be scary and make you feel uneasy but I loved the way Jenni embraced all the new ideas to create the perfect look. It was great to hear Jenni’s updates and excitement as each listed item was achieved, we made a great team!

Design details of this Project

To create that breezy and fresh sanctuary, we wanted the areas to work all as one, so the kitchen, dining & TV space leading out to the pool to align with lifestyle it offers. The walls painted Dulux Lexicon ¼ strength white and remove the ‘green’ feature behind the TV as we didn’t want that be the focus of the room. The large art was re-placed into the spare bedroom and a selection of muted coloured art now hangs to offer an over-all feel. New cushions, rug, dining chairs, pendants & bar stools added to create the space. We also re-styled Jenni’s favourite bits in the spaces as this is what makes a house a home, collectables that are on display that make you happy.

Kitchen, dining & living

In this look we added textured elements such as the pendant lights, VJ panels to the front of the island bench and drama of black tap & handles for a contemporary feel. The front kitchen doors where replaced with a fresh white colour and the bulky range hood was replaced and extra top cabinets added with handle free, for a seamless look. We kept the bench tops, cook top and splash back the same to save on costs. Updating the dining chairs from Hello Trader in black to keep that hint of textured punch in the space and adding black in the rug & cushions so the area flows. We moved the console to the back of the sofa definds the area and offers an element of a ‘centre stage’ piece. The TV cabinets got a face lifted of new fronts in Laminex Impressions range, so it adds subtle texture and kept the same black lip pull handles as the kitchen keep the same aesthetics through the house.

Bedrooms & Study

Jenni’s request was to keep the master bedroom soft and relaxing colours. Of cause white was the perfect choice but adding Jenni’s favourite colour of a sage green to add elegance. Jenni picked all the art and totally feel in love with the swing over the water print! Perfect don’t you think? It offers such a relaxing feel and with the soft sheer curtains what a lovely match. Jenni also has some stunning antique pieces that we styled to show them off, something that Jenni can admire every day. The collectable crystal bottles sit so proud under the modern round mirror, this just shows how the old and the new work so well together.

In the spare room we added the bold art and hung it as a bed head, so the piece gets all the attention, we created the remaining room less busy! The art is the “hero” and Jenni’s husband favourite piece, you can see as you walk down the wall way. Perfect compromise.

This couple have been to some amazing places around the world and collected post cards and other items that we placed on the moodboard over the desk. We lost the ‘red’ and relaced it with white to keep it simple but effective. The single bed was re-style to act as a ‘day bed’ feel and offers the room to feel more like a office. Jenni has so many love items she has collected and been given from family and friends that they are now on display.

Bathrooms & Laundry

Given that the stone tops didn’t need updating we just added new fronts in a charcoal and added the white lip pull handles. This instantly updated the bathrooms and laundry into the now that it looks like they have new bathrooms. We shopped around for new pattern towels and accessories to add more visual appeal. I believe that textured pattern towels offer a space that is better balanced to the block colours (tip for you to use at home).

Below is the final look of each space of Jenni's new home.

We also had a couple of fabulous days shopping at local stores to finish off her home, some cuttings from my garden and flowers from Campbell and Bradley florist to concrete the style.

Finishing off this project and saying goodbye to Jenni was sad, sad that I was not going to see or talk to her as much as I normally do, clients always turn into friends in some way shape or form. Absolutely loved working with Jenni to freshen up her home and I just know we will stay in touch. You are amazing Jenni!

Create Estate | New Bedhead Collection |
CreateEstate simone barter styling 7.jpg

Creating for a photoshoot has so many hours of behind the scenes work, that no one can see when looking at the pretty images. Each styled image is all about planning, moodboarding, collecting props, picking up props, meetings, packing and unpacking the car, late nights, early mornings, a lot of coffee and then styling each image on photo shoot day (= more coffee).  But, even with all this going on it is worth it, to see each image and a that happy feeling of a happy client.

We are super excited to work on styling CREATE ESTATE new bedhead collection with focused on colour and little details as a massive part of this photo shoot to keep each image crisp and minimal for Create Estate overall signature look. With weeks of planning we had a very tight shoot/styling day schedule of 9 bedheads designs & 20 styled images to get photographed. What an A TEAM of the talented photographer Matt Johnson, stunning home of building designer Jasmin Chandler, videos by Larissa Drazic plus the stunning power team of Create Estate - Nicole and Sam along with Anoushka for fast pace of moving forward of each styled room. So yes, feeling the pressure of the day to create amazing styled shoots.

Not only is every image planned for styling but also with the use of props from so many wonderful local and interstate contributors, with stores of :-

Keeping you inspired | Art in Interiors |

We love keeping you all inspired to create something amazing in your homes. And after our 'Art In Interiors' event on the weekend we promised we would share our styling secrets with you.
Before we do, we wanted to say a massive THANKYOU to all of you who joined us and shared the sunshine aboard the Catalina. When Josette has edited (out all of my wrinkles from each photo, haaa) we will share with you images from the day.

Martine Moodboard.jpg

Art in Interiors is certainly a personal choice on what you add to your walls and today we are going to share the building blocks and styled spaces to help you get Inspired. Creating a mood board is the first step when it comes to creating interiors, it is the base of the building blocks and allows us to capture the vision. Starting with a mood board, your art can either match to your colour palette or offering a bold contrast to the space. Art is an expression of the home owners personality and offers a personal touch. Moodboards help create a home from scratch like a new build or renovation, or just to re-style a single room.
This is when the fun begins...
We have styled 4 different looks with 4 different Artists giving you ideas to add into your home.

Using a darker but neutral moodboard we have picked up the Clay and Blue hues from the art.
This can be added into cushions, bed linen or as bold as a painted wall.
This styled area transforms a blank space. The art can be added to create a story,in this case we styled with Amy's art being the hero. Barcarts are becoming a styling must have just like our coffee table styling and even the non-entertainer can accessorise a setting for a personal touch. Here we have taken the moody darker colours to create the story but allowed the art to still be the hero, the remaining wall space is often left bare, clustering the bar cart story gives a unique touch to the room.

Art In Interiors Moodboard Martine Emdur .jpg

Such a stunning art work that has a such a bold statement. We love adding art into a hallway, if offers a different way to showcase a piece and greets your visitors. It gives an
Introduction to your interiors to the remaining areas of your home.
BOLD is better as you can see in the moodboard images, we are offering the home to have a very bold colour transformation with painted walls, this colour doesn’t have
to be in the same area perhaps in a bedroom to keep the flow of such a statement through the home. We have used the same moodboard concept but offered different art to show how looks can change with art placement.

Art In Interiors Moodboard Andy Staley - .jpg

Who doesn't love the calmness of the ocean and having it on your walls not only a prefect medium but creates an interesting style. We love the moodiness of Andy's work and modern take of a coastal style. How looking at the same moodboard we can take the colour palettes and add it into accessories around the home. This home can be created with the same fixtures and fittings like kitchen and bathrooms areas but be transformed when styling the home.

Art In Interiors Moodboard Cass Deller -.jpg

We created this moodboard with 1 room in mind, the office. Art styling over a desk is a fun way to add in some inspiration, can be forever changing and a relaxed way of art collecting. With Cass beautiful modern colour hues, We added magazine images, quotes, family pictures to make the wall personal. Remember not all art has to be framed, you can keep it frameless for a relaxed style. Here the moodboard works directly around the art as that is a main feature for the wall cluster, but offering soft paint colour to the walls and natural desk of timber and white. We also added items that we styled on the desk top but these can be add to shelves next to our practical items of folders.

Incorporate art into your home

Here are our 3 WAYS (sharing our secrets)

1. Don’t avoid art.  You don’t want naked ‘rude’ walls. Homes aren’t complete and is
what makes your spaces unique.

 2. Don’t be afraid of bold artwork. There is no need to match the style of your art to the style of your home. Contrast helps makes a space come alive and feel personal.

 3. Buy what you love and discard pieces you don’t.  Whatever artwork you own, you can work into you home with clever styling.

We are excited to share our Moodboards and styled images for you, all created, styled and photographed for this event.

See you all soon

Looking back at my 2017 goals I had written for myself and top of the list was "Be Bold", to me this time last year that's what I wanted for myself and For me BEING BOLD has no limits ... I had other goals itemised but I also wrote "the universe knows what it has instore for you, so just let it all happen"... Some business friends shake their heads when reading this.. but that's what I did, I really let the year happen and what a fabulous year to look back on so many wonderful people to work with, collaborations and major styling projects happened. For me 2017 really did SHINE. I truly believe that this year has blown all of my wildest business dreams out of the water and 2018 sky is the limit but I am not really going to limit myself to the sky... beyond the sky.

I am so grateful for the growth in that has Simone Barter Design Studio explode with new clients, I feel so lucky to have worked with creatives on the Sunshine Coast, we really are becoming a hub of amazing people. This year I have so many creative people, businesses and business friends to praise and so many wonderful projects to share I wanted to start with some highlights of mine, starting with styling multiple homes that you get to enjoy on pages of Inside Out Mag, Home Life, Grand Designs & Mama Disrupt (and more to be released in 2018, which I am jumping out of my skin to share with you all... but you will have to wait).

A massive styling highlight was working with the ladies from Arki Creative and styling two Brisbane homes that where featured on the first season on Foxtel of 'Love It or List It' Australia episodes. Not only was it so much fun to style with Interior Designers Luisa and Claudia but what a fabulous delight to see the look on the owners faces when they saw their new renovated homes for the first time and with the funniest duos hosting Neale Whitaker and Andrew Winter, it was a great watch. (I hope you loved it too).

One of my biggest creative joys and that gets me so excited is working with businesses to style marketing images so they can grow and expand their dreams of building a fabulous business and so many thank you's to The Find Antiques, Amanda Woods Design, Create Estate, Magnolia Lane, Alabaster Trader, Evolve, Sarah Waller, Villa Styling.... goodness.. Just to name a few. Please look them up on insta and see all of the fabulous products, houses and lifestyles they are creating and selling!

Ok, I can not end this journal post without adding how wonderful, fabulous and a life saver having Anoushka (AKA Nou - images above) join the team, we have achieved so many projects this year and are already working together into 2018 on interior projects, events and resort styling that we know it is going to be a big ONE! We had such a fantastic response to our new event to celebrate the CREATIVE INDUSTRIES IN NOOSA and we had the pleasure of hosting it with beautiful 'The Grace Tales' and collaborating with 'The Paradise Catcher' to create a fun bag for the event..... just a heads up we are organising another one in early 2018... Stay Tuned! If you want to sticky beak at the event, scroll down and you will see all the fun we had.

Another wonderful project included working with a fabulous team to create marketing images for the new release Parkridge Noosa Estate. It is such a wonderful creation by Sam Theis.  One of the last projects to end the year was styling for Holden of the new Equinox vehicle, it was held at Sarah Waller stunning Doonan home and hosted Chef Adam D'sylva, now that is the perfect way to end 2017.

I also wanted to add that what really fuels my creative soul is not only working on massive projects it is working with clients creating their dream homes, renovating, building and it such a wonderful buzz creating homes they just love living in! OMG, I am so sorry for all of by Blah Blah... I hope I haven't bored you to tears yet, I am just to grateful for working with so many wonderful an amazing people.

Of course this year has not been all rosy for me but I do only choose to look at the positives in life and leave the negatives behind and only deal with things in a light hearted way so I am carrying on my 'BE BOLD' manta into 2018 plus a new one I posted in insta 'I HAVE THIS'! It feels right for the new year ahead.

Hope you have a fabulous end to 2017 and see you all in 2018.

Holden Equinox | Event Styling at Noosa's Glasshouse | Chef Adam D'Sylva |

So many exciting names in the title, HOLDEN, GLASSHOUSE DOONAN, CELEBRITY CHEF ADAM D'SYLVA and US styling for the corporate event. Yes, what a fabulous way to end 2017! Styling a massive corporate event.

Receiving the email from Holden a month before the event, simply had us in a styling frenzy! It had to be a tropical theme, everyone was coming to Noosa for this event and it had have a modern twist ! Black and Gold .... As the home is of Architect Sarah Waller and her home is a monochrome magic. This was the overall style of the events, tropical, greenery, black & gold for the long dining table and drinks table. We loved every second creating this style for these 3 events and even with 1 rainy evening, it all went to plan and everyone had a fabulous time. Eating fabulous food, drinking the cutest cocktails at a stunning location.

We loved working with so many fabulous local business to create this event -
The Hire Department - chairs
The Supper Club Co - black tableware, napkins, gold cutlery
Bradley and Campbell florist - creating our vision of greenery
Joe from Cooroy Fruit Market - all things fruit
The Rolling Dolmade - creating beautiful food and doing the not so beautiful chore of washing up form each event.
Sarah Waller -  allowing us to transform her home into a venue.
Holden  - Laura and her team for being magical to work with.

Now for the images.... Taken by the talented Esteban La Tessa ( on the Friday night's event. How stunning was the moon that night!

You can swoon over more images on instagram @stylelifehome  but before you click off, we are so humbled beyond words for allowing us to style this event. We think it is definitely one of our work highlights for 2017.

Watch out 2018 .... anything is possible!

Little Girls Bedroom Make Over | Mama Disrput Magazine |
MD Frankie_43.jpg

Here are some details of our recent work that was featured in the 1st Birthday issue of Mama Disrupt Magazine ( ). We have worked with Interior Designer Luisa from Arki Creative ( ) before and when she was talking about how her little girl Frankie was moving out of her cot into a big girls bed, we knew this had to be photographed, I mean with all the style Luisa creates in homes, her little girls room had to be some spectacular! And she did just that, create a unique room that suits the Queenslander home as well as her own individual style.

This designers theme was all about a rustic scandi look with a modern twist, the colour palette being grey, white, pink and black. We just adore the grey walls, black 4 poster bed with a soft pink for a girly touch. This room will grow with Frankie for years to come but with the colour combo that can change as the trends do too. What a smart Mama!

Giving your daughter a space to grow up in that will be individual as her, we just love this room and here are some of our inspiring images from the space.

We bet you love this look too and here is more on how to create it for your little one.

Our team on this shoot was with Josette Van Zutphen, ( who not only captured the room but the stunning Mama and Daughter images that are so precious.
This is some of our favs of Luisa and Frankie below.

So many things we love about Mama Disrupt, firstly it is created in Noosa! Total talent hub happening on the Sunshine Coast. It is all about inspiring women, pages of great reading to have for your quite time, pages of kids habitats, interviews with celbs and so much Mama STYLE! We are so proud to be in this issue of Mama's 1st Birthday, sharing this stunning room and amazing mama. We hope you grab your copy.

Not only do we have any amazing talents that work with us on each shoot but we have an amazing talents who run local businesses that we are so lucky to share their stunning in store collections on each shoot and below is a collection of talent ladies running business 7 days a week! Since Mama Disrupt is all about women strength and empowerment we wanted to shout out too..... who allowed us to borrow items for the shoot.

Annie from Evolve at Peregian Beach who has the cutest kids / ladies store - stalk her on instagram @evolveperegianbeach . We love Annie!
Kate from Magnolia Lane who is so passionate about sourcing unique pieces from Australian and overseas designers.  instagram @magnolia_lane_

Before we say goodbye, we wanted to let you know that if you need help styling your gorgeous little girls space, please let us know we would love to help you create something truly special.
