WHITE on WHITE | Bathroom Renovation that sings to your soul |

Renee White on White.JPG

Hands up if White on WHITE sings to your soul ?

This bathroom in my clients home certainly did not have this feel before renovating, It was just on little of dated side but Renee and her husband have been dreaming of a crisp white en-suite.
It is so nice working with friends, I met Renee while working with her in a retail store in Hastings Street (yes many years ago, I working part time while building up to keep funds coming in) and we just hit it off. Renee is such a beautiful person and we had so much fun plus I have been working with her over the years to slowing assisting her to renovate each space so it was time for her en-suite (with some funny moments in instagram video chats ) .

Renee is a lover of WHITE, perfect… Now, white can be tricky to tackle as you don’t want to feel like you are in an ice house so we had to create a statement with the tiles and add texture into the bathroom. Choosing a textured herringbone tile design on the back wall was the way to go and using light grey/white marble penny rounds on the floor add a softness to the space. Keeping the ‘old timber’ wall features but giving them a fresh coat of white paint was another element to the hero of our WHITE on WHITE style.
Another element to add in our sea of white was not interrupting the eye and adding white tapware ! HOW stunning, this is my favourite items in this space. Not going a traditional chrome accessories in this renovation was carefully thought of and so happy, it turned out perfectly.

- Also to keep costs down, keep your plumbing in the same spots
- Our space for the mirror was a little tricky but we added an over sized round mirror on the opposite wall to bounce light around
- Make sure your whites match. You don’t want one white looking off or yellow against another
- WHite on WHite is all about texture. Bring it into the space as much as you can

Styling Shorehaven | Master Bedroom |

Furniture Casa Noosa

Styling Shorehaven is a collaboration with the teams from Reed and Co Real Estate and Casa Noosa Homeware/Furniture Store in Noosa. The home at 169 Shorehaven Drive, Noosa Waters was a vacant home being placed on the market and needed some interior updating and a fresh new look. But let’s make this BIG said Adrian (owner of Reed and Co), Open Home evening event with champagne, q&a’s on the night with Amanda Stevens, lets write and produce a COASTAL LUXE magazine, Master Styling Class for a small group of guests and video of it all!! Well, as they say, “go big or go home” and that was the theme for this fantastic collaboration.

With Coastal Luxe being the interior inspiration and having the absolute joy of choosing all the individual furniture/homeware items from Casa Noosa, the transformation of this home begun (Thanks to Twyalalee and Paul for making this process easy). The basics started by creating the balance of the correct textures, timber, modern finishes and adding touches of black. With the open plan space, I started by choosing a stunning light grey velvet sofa for its texture, button details and offers that Luxe feel, from that point adding two sets of occasional chairs that are low, interesting shapes & textures and of cause comfortable. The living space was anchored with an oversized timber coffee table, being an open plan home it helped merge each area, the same size rugs had been chosen but in different shades of grey to balance the large room. I love dining tables on rugs in an open plan space, it makes it feel luxe and creative way to make the space feel warm and cosy. Layering of amazing timber table, with different seating arrangements helps the room feel relaxed and more family friendly. Casa Noosa has so many fabulous styling items to team up to achieve maximum impact for this home.

Outside has the most stunning water views and Casa Noosa has the most stunning range of out door furniture, Perfect match. It certainly is hard to find outdoor fabrics that suits our Noosa sunny and tropical weather, so it is fabulous to have Casa Noosa’s large range. This home is made for entertaining, so a beautiful palette of greys, black and navy was introduced. I kept all the furniture low so from inside it wouldn’t impact the view, but creating that Coastal Luxe vibe.

For me, every item was picked for a purpose to suit not only the style, the home, the space, and to offer a feel of functional details. I believe you can have a home that is stylish and functional, it all comes down to the correct design right from the start. And this is something I love to create in every client’s home.

Moving onto the Open Home Event, the fabulous Reed and Co team not only organised this but working with them over the past month has been an absolute pleasure. Very professional and hardworking, the whole campaign went so smoothly. So successful in fact that Reed and CO had over 150 of you rsvp to this event, the home on the night was so full of beautiful people who enjoyed champagne and tour of the home.  Thank you to Amanda Stevens for being the best MC & making me feel super comfortable and asking simple questions for me to answer haa. And with Adrian and Paul, answering industry questions, so much information was shared. Everyone love it!

Plus a Massive Thank you to the lovely ladies who joined me for the exclusive Styling Master Class. We had so much creative conversations while touring the home, I did go over time (knew I would as I am an over sharer) but I chatted about tips and tricks of interiors, correct furniture placement, answered so many interior questions on their homes/renovations and we created fabulous personalised interior moodboard. Who wants another one, ME! (seriously if you missed out, let me know and maybe another Master Class can be organised, I know of a great location!)

WOW, what an event, absolutely loved working with amazing and talented teams so watch out the next collaboration event!

Thanks for hanging onto until the end, I am forever grateful for all your support.

Making a striking impression
New Kitchen Design by Simone Barter Builder Recom Building

New Kitchen Design by Simone Barter
Builder Recom Building

Starting this blog post by sharing what my amazing clients have to say, this is why I love what I
do .

“Simone’s ability to listen and interpret our dream concept has delivered a new home beyond our
expectations. Before meeting with Simone we had visited several other interior designers, and
were disheartened by their inability to hear what we wanted in our new space. Each sort to
impose their own interpretation on the project. Simone’s approach was very different. Simone
listened to our ideas, our likes and dislikes, our lifestyle and how we wanted to use the space.
Her ability to take our basic concepts, and utilise her tremendous skill, along with industry
contacts sourced amazing furniture, tiles, soft furnishings which all came together into a
harmonious contemporary work of art. Her vision and guidance throughout our year long project
has brought our dream home to fruition.
Simone was available every step of the way for questions, reassurance about design choices, and
also to problem solve when inevitable issues happened along the way in a complete renovation of
a 40 year old apartment”
Maree and Deb

I was looking through my first design notes that I took after meeting with Maree and Deb to discuss their Apartment Renovation design over a year ago and I wrote “Monochrome, bold, stylish, personal, comfortable, featured interior custom designs with a striking impression”. I feel that is what the finished look now offers my beautiful clients to enjoy.

For my clients this new renovation had to be easy to keep clean, room to move with custom designs to offer different elements and create a whole new style to live in. They wanted creative ways to conceal gadgets and appliances, create larger bedroom spaces, bold art work to be the HERO and a spot for ‘Pickles’. Even a small apartment can have a massive impact with the right design, layout, furniture placement and you certainly don’t need a big space to achieve that (as you can see in the before and after images below).

For me, creating this project had elements of importance to pay attention to design details while thinking of the end result. Three very small bedrooms re-designed into 2 large bedrooms with WIR, the Master Bedroom was flipped and now has Ocean Views (so beautiful to wake up to that) with a Custom WIR and Large Ensuite. The guests now have a large bathroom and separate Powder Room. All while keeping the living space the same layout but re-designing to make it feel more spacious.
Little details of hidden power points in the bathrooms, built in phone charges into the ledge of the custom bedhead, adjustable wall Arm lights for easy night reading and clever storage areas. While adding the BIG impact designs elements such as hiding the laundry space into the kitchen cabinetry, creating the under bench pantry drawer, making the ensuite and WIR be functional and adding a designer herringbone bedhead to make the WOW factor, but also to allow more room in the master bedroom so we don’t need bulky bedside tables. Creating a big impact black TV wall and adding stone around the fire place (just to name a few). With so many elements that came into this project and working with my clients to create the perfect new interior look is what I find to be one of the wonderful processes to design a personalise space. I know that clients come to me for custom design but I also truly want them to feel at ‘home’ when the project is finished and love every element.

Behind the scenes on this project was all about finding the perfect tile, bench top, furniture pieces and designing special elements for that perfect impression. I still don’t know what is my favourite design element… the custom black herringbone bedhead, sitting breakfast bar scooping around the island bench, the guest bathroom in a small space, or maybe it is the open space master ensuite, or the cute white tiles in the Powder Room ! List goes on but I love it all.
This renovation has gone through a massive transformation, with hours of design works to mesh the 40 year ‘old’ unit (on the 4th floor) with the new design elements to suit all of my clients requests. Of course we had our limitations to work with being an older unit, but Jason Trinder from Recom Building took on the challenge with ease to allow these design elements to come to life. This team is incredible to work with and I am truly grateful to work alongside such talented tradespeople.
A project on this scale is certainly a TEAM effort and here is the snap shot of the amazing people

Renee's Family Renovation
stylelifehome design renovations Designer Door.jpg

Above - Custom Design Front Door and Mudroom created by Simone Barter -
Below - Kitchen statement details. Owner Renee and Simone

Step inside Renee and Travis’s new family home in Noosa Heads, this house certainly did not look like this 12 months ago but the location, massive potential and big block ticked all the boxes for this family. The family had a style that not only needed to be robust for the family, stylish but easy to live in.
This project started for me over a year ago when Renee contacted us through Instagram to meet with her and her family to start designing a new floor plan and extension of a second living, laundry, and master bedroom plus ensuite and add entry mudroom, butlers pantry & pool. This old and new space had to internally and externally marry plus add new design elements and details for a fresh interior look.
Remodelling of all internal spaces and bringing all the areas together one of the most exciting part of this project for me plus planning all the all the materials, colours, kitchen design along with fixtures and fittings - with the whole design elements , I was in designer heaven plus I must say Renee and Travis were an absolute delight to work with and totally trusting in me to bring their dream home to life.
Once the design and aspect of the home was set, Jason from Recom Building had the challenge to bring this renovation to life, With only 4 external walls remaining, Jason and his team completed this amazing home with so many details to cover, this renovation was a success.

My favourite design elements to create
- Mixing beautiful materials, fixtures and fittings
- Creating the custom timber herringbone front door
- Choosing door handles that become features
- Designing cabinetry for not only storage but add details of interest
- Creating a functional and stylish kitchen
- Choosing furniture & create custom cushions

stylelifehome design renovations1.jpg

Even with an overall monochrome feel, we wanted to bring in personalised colours into the bedroom. The owners wanted each room to suit not only their personality but their children.

Now to say Thanks to the team of professionals for this project
Builder - Jason from Recom Building & his amazing team
All custom cabinetry, kitchen & pantry - Jason and Grace from Trend Set Kitchens

To the SEA - Rainbow Beach
Palm Tree Lodge AirBNB 2 sml.jpg

Welcome to our Palm Tree Lodge – my family’s renovation project at Rainbow Beach. This has been a dream of ours to own our little seaside getaway, a place where we can make fun memories for our girls and a home away from home. Away from routine, schedules and a place to re-charge and re-connect. Oh plus Shannon (my husband) & the girls surfs so…. Bingo! Surf shack!

My husband and I are not newbies to this RENO game & we know that old homes kick you in the face with problems but we certainly took on this project with our eyes wide open in early October 2018. Which is what it did, with glue not coming off the concrete slab (we had to bring in the big gun sander), our Electrician’s had to take the roof off every time we need to add in a fan or light due to no roof cavity, merging the old with the new always is painful, the design challenge of it being a compact home and my husband (bless his soul) being my worst client ever haaaaa. (You know I had to say that darling)

Now for the speed read of design elements -

Design concept of black, white and Navy. My core values for this home was it to be inviting and relaxing space and that we could all feel connected. I didn’t want the home to be all about the TV but more about the outdoor area and connection to the kitchen which is always the hub. I wanted the spirit of this holiday home rise again into the modern now.

What I loved about designing this home -

- We could not have pendants from the ceiling, so this offered for myself to look at alternative lighting designs. I love Black wall ‘Arm’ light over the kitchen bench and all the wall lighting that can be directed to different areas. One of my favourite features.

- As the home did not have any space for a traditional ‘dining room’ I designed the drop down bench/table that is the same height as a dining table. I added 2 chairs and 2 stools so the stools can be tucked under while in the kitchen.

- In the kitchen I didn’t want the space to have overheads on both sides, so I love the long but narrow timber shelf to add interest and also I can style with different items and it be forever changing.

- Creating the VJ panel wall in the living space to give the home some charter and getting so many shades of navy until the vote was British Paints Kara Sea. Perfect really.

- As the kitchen needed some texture and substance. White cabinets and tiles would have been the safest design choice but I wanted to add the surprise of adding mini black herringbone splash back tile with concrete look bench top with black cabinets feature wall.

- The out door space – it is massive now and opens onto the back yard. Great for more air flow, light and more usable for the large kitchen window and ‘cocktail bar’ (as I call it)

- The bathroom is small layout but we kept all the internal walls. So I added a tile feature around the custom vanity plus a glass shower door. I wanted thicker black grout for more of a punchy impact ! I love it as it hits you in the face as you walk into the bathroom but my favourite details are the black penny rounds on the floor.

And now the Thank You’s to our professional team, we couldn’t have done this without you on 2 months time frame.
Craig our handyman/all rounder support and for being on board for all our crazy ideas.
Kitchen, vanity and laundry custom cabinetry – Trend Set Kitchen Gympie (you are the BEST In the biz)

And, as I just finishing the styling on the weekend I must admit I had 1 massive melt down (bound to happen) and that was because I couldn’t figure out the coffee machine ! YEP.. It’s the small things that push you over the edge! We came all this way with me not loosing it, butttt it was bound to happen. (Sorry to my girls and my husband).
Now it’s all ‘ready’ for us for our first Christmas and for you all to enjoy as your next holiday destination with your family and for you to make special memories and relax.

Beautiful details

Secret time - I love old homes, the ones with beautiful details and segmented rooms and high ceilings. Yes, a lot more work to renovate but to me they give you more joy. The feeling of that lived in comfort and the best is you can still add your modern elements in. So when my clients Adam and Trudy asked me to style a stunning charmer For Sale, of cause it was all about how the old meets the new and also to keep in mind who will be the next family to enjoy the space.
One of my favourite elements is the traditional window seat in the master bedroom, dreamy!

The list of details to get this home ‘SALE READY’

- Paint the timber fronts in the kitchen to soften the space to pack in natural light

- Liven up the bathroom and remove that dated feel

- New & modern furniture

-Add new art

-Still keep all the unique features

-The B word -budget - as this stunning home is now in the market

To capture the timeless style of the home but give it a modern touch we wanted the furniture and art to reflect this for the ‘new’ owner. Below is some of our factors we introduced

Our 5 best finds

Yorklee Prints
Super Amart Navy Velvet Erin chair
Super Amart Grey Bambi chair
Kmart timber bench seat
Kmart bedside Woven lamp for the master

Coming towards the end of year we have may more projects to share, stay tuned as they say

Noosa unit with space and style

Update time for this Noosa Unit.

This roomy and spacious holiday unit needed to embrace the Noosa lifestyle and have a relaxed feel added to the interiors. Our style solutions for this unit needed to fit the brief plus offer statement items and tiny details to achieve smart space style ready for Adrian from Reed and Co. to place this Unit on the market and with the current owners’ excitement for a new look and the eye for the future, this was the start of a stunning result.

Below are the ‘BEST BITS’ for this transforming :-

- Mood board of a luxe tropical relaxed style. Always plan for the style you want to achieve, and a professional mood board is always a great way to start and the clients loved seeing the new style.

- Adding more light into the space and making each zone like it is connected unless you wanted to close it off for more privacy.

- De-clutter, De-Clutter, De-clutter. An absolute must for this transformation. As you can see by the before and after images, we removed extra-large sofas, chairs, bookcases, large art, heavy framed mirrors, TV units and the pendant light. The pendant was too small, and This was replaced with downlights, so the room would flow.

- Painting over the ‘beige’ & ‘brown’ walls! Yes, this was a high priority on the ‘new look’ list. Now it’s a fresh Dulux Lexicon ¼ strength and the kitchen feature colour of Dulux Guild Grey.
(After’s of the new look below)

More of the wish list on this styling transformation :-

- Custom homewares are a must as it offers any space a ‘signature’ style and we love to utilise local talents. For this Unit every cushion was customise for each room, and I chose custom fabrics and sizes to offer the space a personal touch. All cushions are from Studio H Design
Art is another way to define a style and with local talents such as Cass Deller that we used for the master bedroom Palm Tree art and a perfect detail for our look.
Creating the relaxed vibe we added two stunning new occasional chairs are from the local concept store Hello Trader

As you know we love sharing the before look with the finished look, see below.

The space allows constant contact with others but also allows activity In different spaces, the owners love it and laughed that they may not sell it any more as they love it too much! Only joking Adrian.

Thanks for stopping by, we just love to share our projects and our special client’s new homes and spaces.

Now this completed Unit is in the hands of Adrian at Reed and Co. Real Estate . Love this Unit? Contact Adrian via and see the video
